Sherman2.jpgSheldon L. Sherman is a devoted husband and dedicated father of three.  He is respectfully seeking your support and vote on February 22, 2011, to serve as your next Alderman of the 21st Ward.  Sheldon’s education and vast experience serving in public service has uniquely qualified him to serve as your Alderman with great passion and commitment.  We believe Sheldon has the vision and energy to better the lives of the people of the 21st Ward and the City of Chicago.

Sheldon has served in public service for many years and as a 13-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department (CPD), he prides himself in protecting and serving the citizens of Chicago. Sheldon L. Sherman received his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Lewis University and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He is also an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Sheldon is an active member of Shekinah Chapel where he currently serves on the Church Council.

In serving with the Preventive Programs Unit of CPD for nearly 3 years, he firmly believes in listening and learning from the citizens in our community from the youth to the senior citizens.  Additionally, he volunteers with a not-for-profit organization, Rescue, Release and Restore, Inc. that is dedicated to encouraging disadvantaged and at risk youth. Leadership and Rites of Passage summer camps are held to encourage and reaffirm the organization’s mission to “Rescue” their gifts, “Release” their potential and “Restore” their promise for a better tomorrow. With increased violence in our communities, organizations such as Rescue, Release and Restore, Inc. are critical support mechanisms for the future of our youth. As the next Alderman of the 21st Ward, Sheldon will continue to support and volunteer his services to organizations that support the betterment of our youth.

Our communities are comprised of everyday residents, religious, business and social organizations that are concerned by our troubled neighborhoods.  These concerns are a priority and with the help of God and the continued prayers of the residents of the 21st Ward, we will make every effort to confront the rising crime in our neighborhoods.  An Alderman plays a critical role as the primary servant of the community.  The principal job of an Alderman is to be a reflection and extension of the eyes, ears, hands and minds of residents who seek to live in a safe, physically inspiring, constantly improving Ward.  As your next Alderman, it is our responsibility to see that trees in our neighborhoods are kept trimmed, that our streets are kept free of trash, that the garbage is picked up from our alleys on time, that stop lights and stop signs are placed within our Ward at just the right spots to prevent traffic accidents. Also, the application of our zoning codes should be directed at keeping out those businesses that tear down the life values of hard-working residents yet, encourage the placement of retail establishments and other businesses that will bring good jobs and needed services to our community.

The residents of the 21st Ward may asked, “How will Sheldon do the job?”  He would respond to you by simply saying, “I will not spend the majority of my time behind a desk, either at the Ward Office or City Hall, but rather face to face with my community.  I will spend my time walking the streets, checking our Ward's vacant lots, buildings and businesses, inspecting and inventorying the alleys and crime "hot spots" of our Ward on a regular basis.  I will visit schools and churches, attend community meetings. I will listen always to the people whom I seek to serve.  This is the change that I will bring to aldermanic leadership in the 21st Ward that I love so much.  If you want a new voice and new thinking in the 21st Ward – I ask for your support.”
